In lab work, 5-Amino-1MQ blocks an enzyme named NNMT. NNMT became a metabolism research target after a 2014 mouse paper. A 2017 chemistry screen then ranked the quinolinium group, which 5-Amino-1MQ belongs to, as the strongest NNMT blockers it tested. Follow up studies used fat cells, mice, older mice with a muscle injury, and rats. Most of those papers come from one lead author. We could not find a published human trial, and no regulator has approved the compound.
